I understand the flexible utility of the Custom option.

But Downloads is not an "arbitrary" folder. It's a core user folder, like Documents ( which does not require me to manually add with a Custom item).

Thx!

using windows folder properties, i moved the Downloads folder to a different location on the drive.
now i do not see the Download menu on Classic Start.

I noticed the Downloads folder is enabled in Windows Start settings, if that's relevant.

How to show Downloads menu in Start?

thx!

it's already an SSD.

question: does Classic Shell use Windows icon cache? It seems not, because even if folder icons load quickly, Classic start icons still load slowly on first time.

Where is Classic Start's icon cache stored?

thx

The pre-caching only affects the start menu folders, the desktop and Favorites. Do you have the "Delay loading of icons" turned on? It should be on by default. "Delay loading of icons" was in fact turned off. I guess that's Classic Shell's workaround for this very problem. I ena...

If i open the folder in Explorer, i notice that its icons load very slowly. But, even if i open the folder in Explorer and allow the icons to l...

i moved files around, as you suggested. Does not seem related to a specific file, just seems to get worse with more files/folders.

Documents and downloads are on same drive , external SD.

Documents: 26 folders, 1 file
Downloads: 5 folders, 25 files

loads quickly after 1st slow load.

loving CSM. The Start menu loads quickly.

i have Documents and Downloads menus set as drill-down style menus.

The Documents menu always loads instantly on first time opening.

But, the Downloads folder always loads very slowly on first time opening.

How can i fix that?

Number of items in Recent Items menu is increasing-- maybe it's just a post-install problem? The folder and menu don't contain the same number of items, but maybe some of these filetypes can't display in the Recent Items menu? http://s19.postimg.org/xi2rk0kkv/Screenshot_7.jpg http://s19.postimg.org/...

Any idea why that would be?

It doesn't actually hang, but it takes about 60 seconds for 3 items to load:
  • the computer
  • a fax icon (i don't have a fax machine)
  • microsoft xps document writer

thx!
