Well it seems that the problem is caused by my graphics driver!!

The ATI Mobility X1400 Radeon driver I have on my Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop worked OK with Windows 8 but NOT 8.1 and because it's ancient there's no newer driver.. Oh well..

Just installed a fresh copy of Win 8.1 Enterprise x86 on a Dell Inspiron 6400 Laptop and the first thing I installed was v4.0.2 of Classic Start Menu. After each boot all I get is a black screen with the mouse pointer? If I then press the power button I briefly see the desktop before the laptop goes...

Just thought I'd post that I found a solution...

With Yamicsoft's Windows 8 Manager I used the built in Win-X Menu Editor and used "restore all" command. Now the Win-X menu works AOK either with Right Clicking on the Start Button or Win-X Keyboard Shortcut :-)

It seemed to do it when I created a new user.
The original user is fine but the new users Win-X doesn't work as it should - everything else works fine - OS and Classic Menuwise - very strange?

v4.0.2 It's not a big deal and it might be nothing to do with Classic Menu but if I right click on the start button I don't get the Win-X menu. Even if I press Win-X I don't get the menu? (and before you ask the setting is checked so that it should work correctly) Also if I right click on the start ...

No, it won't alert everyone yet. The update notification has intentionally not been rolled out yet because a lot of people don't try the betas and RCs and then when 4.0 is declared as RTM, they directly try it and all the real issues and bugs start getting reported. :D Ivo might do a quick 4.0.1 up...

I think I know the answer but here goes anyway...

Is v3.6.8 supposed to alert you to a "Classic Shell Update" now that v4 is released?
At the moment if I "Check Now" (with 3.6.8 installed) it says "Your version of Classic Shell is up to date"?
